Design & branding
Sites implementing VCU branding elements must be consistent with and in support of the VCU mission statement.
Certain criteria must be met in order to include the VCU logotype and other branding elements into a domain other than vcu.edu:
- The site must provide a marketing advantage to the university and be approved by University Marketing, (804) 828-8814.
- The site must meet all other VCU Web Publishing Standards and Guidelines.
- The domain must be registered by the department or group it represents, not an individual.
- Logo usage and nomenclature must be approved by VCU Creative Services, (804) 828-1463.
University graphic elements
The university's logotype and bar element must be used on all organizational homepages and be visible on the initial load for a 1024x768 screen. Instructions and examples for use of the branding elements are available at the VCU Identity site.
VCU logotype
The VCU logotype is the block-lettered VCU represented below. You may use different colors for the logotype (both foreground and background), but you must use the exact letter-shape of the logo. (Remaking the logotype using a similar font is not allowed.) The block logotype should be large enough to read.
VCU bar
The VCU bar is a long horizontal block with Virginia Commonwealth University spelled out. As with the logo, you may use different colors for the bar (both foreground and background), but you must use the exact letter-shape of the bar. (Remaking the logotype using a similar font is not allowed.) The text within the bar should be large enough to read.
You can download high quality versions of both the VCU logotype and the VCU bar — as well as the VCU Medical Center logo — from the graphic standards section of the VCU Identity site.
University nomenclature
The guidelines for nomenclature are to be followed for references to Virginia Commonwealth University and the VCU Medical Center.
